Tapping bands & repair couplers

TappingThe heavy duty 4N Tapping Bands are specially designed for lateral line and service connections from mainline pipes. These Noryl Resin Glass Reinforced tapping bands are made tough to provide a durable and reliable connection in the world’s harshest environments. The full 4N range includes bands for both Series 1 and Series 2 PVC pipe and Medium Density Polyethylene pipelines. With unique installation technology to stop the bands falling off the pipe while down in the dirt and anti-rotation lugs moulded into the band to prevent rotational movement, the 4N range is certainly every installer’s friend. To compliment this, each 4N Tapping Band is colour coded to make selection quick and simple.

Quality Assurance

The 4N Tapping Bands reach the highest level of quality. Designed and manufactured by an ISO 9001:2000 manufacturer the 4N range has been tested and approved to AS/NZS 4129 and AS/NZS 4793. Further to these standards 4N have been approved to bear the highly esteemed Australian Watermark certification.

Benefits & Applications

  • Superior clamping technology to make these bands very Easy-to-fit.

  • Anti-rotation lugs moulded into the band to prevent slipping. This contrasts to other rotational movement prevention which requires an insert around the bore thus reducing flow and meaning the inlet hole has to drill prior to installation. With 4N you receive full flow and the inlet hole can be drilled post installation.

  • All Tapping Bands are colour coded for different pipe types, making product selection quick and easy for every installer.

  • Heavy duty rubber seal for leak resistant connection.

  • 4N Tapping Bands are frequently successfully used in Municipal/Civil, Agricultural. Horticultural, Irrigation and Frost Protection schemes.

Installation Instructions

  1. Remove your 4N Tapping Band from its sealed bag and ensure you have the top and bottom half of the Tapping Band, two bolts, two washers, and two nuts and a rubber E-lip or O-ring seal.

  2. Assemble the O-ring or E-lip seal carefully onto the band, making sure no dirt etc. is in the Tapping Band groove. Extra care must be taken when fitting curved E-lips. Mating any positioning lug into the matching notch in the band groove to ensure they are aligned correctly.

  3. Before installing the Tapping Band the two halves should be a slightly oval shape which will mean that the band will clip onto the pipe and hold there while you install the top half and tighten the bolts. Position the Tapping Band on a clean section of pipe and do up the bolts until the band is secure on the pipe.

Installation Tips

  1. When tightening the Tapping Band down we recommend tightening the bolts evenly to ensure on even compression on the Tapping Band Seal. 10Ft lbs. /15Nm Torque is sufficient.

  2. When installing take-off fittings you should tightened these to 20Ft lbs. /30Nm, and Ferrules must not be screwed in beyond their thread depth. Hand tight plus half to full turn with a wrench is all that is necessary. No more than two to three wraps of thread tape is required.

  3. Position service pipes to eliminate undue leverage on the Tapping Band.

  4. When tapping the pipe through the tapping band, be careful not to damage the band or seal nor force swarf under the seal.

  5.  If any movement of the system is likely to occur through soil subsidence, water hammer, expansion etc, suitable precautions to prevent such forces moving the bands must be taken, E.g. Thrust blocks.

Pressure Rating

All 4N Tapping Bands are rated to 16 Bar at 20°C. The pressure rating must be adjusted if used at temperatures exceeding 20°C. Please consult Waterworks regarding the adjusted pressure ratings in applications above 20°C.

Temperature Range

4N Tapping Bands are designed to withstand a temperature range of -40°C to 70°C. Please note that in applications where the temperature exceeds 20°C the pressure rating will be adjusted. Please consult Waterworks regarding the adjusted pressure ratings in applications above 20°C.
